My 9 year old hit me right in the feels tonight…
On the way to church, she was practicing her memory verse…Proverbs 31:30- Charm is deceitful and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
She had looked it up in her Bible and decided to then read aloud the entire passage in Proverbs 31 about a wife of noble character.
Great. My favorite. Nothing like hearing about what a great wife is like to help remind you that you’re not even in the ballpark.
As she was reading, I was critiquing myself.
Ugh. That’s not even possible. How much coffee did she have? Didn’t she ever shut herself in the bathroom with a package of cookies or something? Of course not. She wouldn’t eat cookies. She’s perfect. I’m sure she always had perfect eyebrows and her minivan was always immaculate too.
By the time she finished reading the passage I had convinced myself that I was a miserable failure on all counts.
Then my daughter looks up from her Bible and says “Wow, Mom. She sounds exactly like you.”
*Insert tears here*
Guess I’ll show up and try this thing again tomorrow.
